Saltalamacchia caught in 119 games for the Red Sox, the most in a season in his career. But the extra playing time didn't slow him down, as he finished with a career-high .804 OPS. He hit two home runs on June 9, leading the Sox to a win over the Angels. The next day, he had four hits as they beat the Rays. When the Red Sox blew a 4-0 lead in the seventh inning on September 13 against the Yankees, Salty hit a tie-breaking grand slam to give the Sox the win and extend their lead in the division to four games. He finished the season with 40 doubles, setting a new record for a Red Sox catcher. In the opening game of the Division Series, Salty reached base three times via a walk, a single, and a double, and drove in three runs as the Red Sox got off to a hot start. In ALCS Game 2, the Red Sox trailed in the series 1-0 and were down 5-1 in the game, when David Ortiz's grand slam tied it in the eighth. Salty put a dramatic cap on the night when he hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to drive home Jonny Gomes with the winning run.
