After picking up their first two wins of the season over the weekend, the Sox dropped the first two of their series against the Rays.  So far, their only two wins had come with me present, and on Wednesday I was ready to go again to help bring them their third.

The forecast didn’t look good for Wednesday night.  It was supposed to be in the low 40’s and there was rain predicted all night.  So when I left for work in the morning, I packed all my warm gear.  I never like to miss out on a game, but with their record at 2-9, I couldn’t help but think a rainout might be the best thing for them at this point.  I know the players usually like to get back out there the next day after a loss, but the Rays would be making two more trips to Fenway – in August and September – and it might be better to face them later in the year when the weather is warmer and the Red Sox are playing better.

At work, I kept an eye on the Red Sox’ and Boston Globe‘s websites in case there was any news.  At 3:30, I saw that the game had been officially postponed.  The makeup date wasn’t announced yet, but my guess is that it would be part of the August series.  I was just relieved that they had made the announcement early enough to save everyone a trip in to Boston.  I was also happy when I read that tonight’s rainout coupled with a scheduled off day Thursday had them re-arranging the rotation.  My next game would be Sunday, and it was originally lined up for a Daisuke Matsuzka start, but now I’d be seeing Jon Lester instead.  Plus I’d get to go to an extra game in August now, when it was sure to be warmer.
