Pedro on the mound

Yawkey Way Saturday morning in Dallas was a chilly 89 degrees at 6:30 a.m. as I went to the airport. When I landed in Logan it was 68 degrees and partly cloudy. I changed into Red Sox game gear, stored my bag in a locker, caught a cab and was on my way to the Holy Land!

As the cab driver told me of his aggravating parakeet that he "rescued" from a "mental hospital" (no kidding), all I could do was look out the window for a glance of Fenway. He got me a few blocks away and since it was 1:00 p.m. I sprinted through traffic, program hawkers, and the smell of hot dogs and sausages to the bridge on the first base side. Bought a ticket and finally slowed down as I walked through Gate A and into Fenway!! It's been 20 years since I was there and man I was NOT disappointed.

To see your team play like they did was beyond description, and Pedro....! YOU DON'T COME INTO PEDRO'S HOUSE WHEN HE'S ON 'DA MOUND, BABY! I was 50 rows back behind the first base side and every strike the crowd was cheering. Every 1-2 or 0-2 count was exhilarating. After the game was over, I kicked back and had my last beer and actually had to be asked to leave the Park because they were closing it up!

Got back in Dallas at 1:00 a.m. and I'm still feeling it. If you haven't been, GO! If you've been but it's been a long time, GO AGAIN!
